Body mass index and mortality among older people living in the community

Article Abstract:

The relationship between mortality and body mass index (BMI) in older people living in the community is discussed based on a prospective cohort study carried out in Italy. It was found that BMI is an important predictor of mortality in these subjects and even when clinical and functional variables are controlled for, a low BMI is a significant and independent predictor of shortened survival.
