Bridging the workforce gap for our aging society: how to increase and improve knowledge and training. Report of an expert panel

Article Abstract:

With the growing needs for elderly becoming more complex, there exists a shortage for healthcare workers who are well versed with the requirements of the elderly needs. A conference in April 2003 at Washington D.C. was held focusing on the requirement of trained workforce for geriatric research, education, and patient care. A summary of the conference is presented in a report.

An evaluation of a low-intensity intervention to introduce students to healthy older people

Article Abstract:

A report on the controlled, prospective, longitudinal trial of an intervention to affect medical students attitudes towards aging are reviewed. A low-intensity intervention to introduce entering medical students to healthy older people having a positive effect on attitude towards aging is discussed.

Effect of a mandatory geriatric medicine clerkship on third-year students

Article Abstract:

The effect of the new mandatory geriatric medicine clerkship on third-year students, introduced by University of Oklahoma, is analyzed. The clerkship had a positive effect as it boosted the students' knowledge of geriatric medicine.
