Cause of death in older patients with anatomo-pathological evidence of chronic bronchitis or emphysema: a case-control study based on autopsy findings

Article Abstract:

This article examines the most prevalent causes of death among older patients with emphysema or chronic bronchitis. Findings indicate that pneumonia caused the most deaths, respiratory failure and heart attacks occurred more frequently among patients with either emphysema or chronic bronchitis, and pulmonary embolisms were most prevalent among patients with emphysema.

A comparative study of clinical features and outcomes in young and older adults with severe acute respiratory syndrome

Article Abstract:

The goal of the study is to determine the clinical presentation, findings, and outcomes of older adults with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and compare these with a control over younger patients. The study concluded that older patients with SARS more often presented with nonspecific symptoms, and the prognosis was poor.
