Does behavioral improvement with haloperidol or trazodone treatment depend on psychosis or mood symptoms in patients with dementia?

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that trazodone yields greater behavioral improvement in dementia patients with mild depressive symptoms, while the effectiveness of haloperidol was not influenced by the presence or absence of psychosis in patients. Data were obtained from 28 dementia patients who exhibited aggressive or agitated behaviors.

African American and white caregivers of older adults with dementia: differences in depressive symptomatology and psychotropic drug use

Article Abstract:

The possible differences in depression symptoms and medication use in African Americans and white caregivers of elderly veterans with dementia is analyzed. The study findings indicate that African American caregivers were less likely to use medications.
