Influence of companion animals on the physical and psychological health of older people: an analysis of a one-year longitudinal study

Article Abstract:

Researchers conducted a study to examine whether animal companionship or attachment to an animal companion is associated with changes in psychological and physical health of older people. They also examined whether the relationships between physical and psychological health were modified by the presence of an animal companion. The study revealed that there is a relationship between pet-ownership and enhanced well-being.
