On the problem of detecting effects of lifestyle on cognitive change in adulthood: Reply to Pushkar et al

Article Abstract:

Issues raised about data from the Victoria Longitudinal Study were considered and further explanations for concerns regarding evidence for the engagement hypothesis are provided. A focus on the use of social stratification variables argues that tests of the hypothesis should concentrate on the link between behaviors and activities believed to be beneficial on adult cognitive development.

Performance variability is related to change in cognition: evidence from the Victoria longitudinal study

Article Abstract:

It was examined whether age differences and change in inconsistency were related to 6-year cognitive change. Greater inconsistency was observed for older participants even after controlling for differences in response speed. New longitudinal results demonstrated certain findings, which support the view that performance variability serves as a marker of cognitive aging.
