Pessimism, age, and cancer mortality

Article Abstract:

Age difference is a factor influencing mortality among younger and older cancer patients. A pessimistic life orientation is a risk factor for mortality in younger patients. However, the interaction effects of age and pessimism and depression on mortality are insignificant. Results indicate a specific effect of age on pessimistic cancer patients. This study assesses 238 cancer patients, aged 30 years and above, on the Life Orientation Test and the Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression scale.
