Research agenda for frailty in older adults: toward a better understanding of physiology and etiology: summary from the American Geriatrics Society/National Institute on Aging Research Conference on Frailty in Older Adults

Article Abstract:

A report on the results of the 2004 American Geriatrics Society/National Institute on Aging conference, on a "Research Agenda on Frailty in Older Adults", is presented. Area of focus of the conference is physical and physiological aspects of frailty. Evolving conceptualization and definitions of frailty are also examined.

Weight change in old age and its association with mortality

Article Abstract:

The article examines the health effects of a 5% weight loss or weight gain in adults 65 years of age and older. Findings show that even modest weight loss is a significant independent marker of mortality risk, while weight gain in the study population was rare and had no discernible impact.

Study conducted to compare the association of systemic markers of inflammation and periodontal diseases in elderly population by using Benzyl DL beta Naphthylamide test resulted in inflammatory markers.
