The effects of childhood residence in Japan and testing language on cognitive performance in late life among japanese american men in Hawaii

Article Abstract:

Research demonstrates an inverse correlation between childhood residence in Japan and cognitive test performance in late life among Japanese men. Data further reveal that for assessing the cognitive performance, use of the native language of the subjects yields better results.

The relationship of psychosocial factors to total mortality among older Japanese-American men: the Honolulu Heart Program

Article Abstract:

3,497 Japanese American older men in Oahu, Hawaii were studied to see how their longevity related to their social structures and psychological health. Study participants took the Lubben Social Networks Scale test and those who scored poorly tended to die earlier.

Cognitive deficits 3 to 6 years before dementia onset in a population sample: the Honolulu-Asia Aging Study

Article Abstract:

Cognitive functioning at 3 to 6 years before onset of dementia is analyzed in a sample of Japanese Americans, who were participating in Honolulu-Asia Aging study. Cognitive deficits and memory impairments symptoms were observed in subjects who later on developed dementia.
