The ethic of care: stability over time, gender differences, and correlates in mid- to late adulthood

Article Abstract:

A study of the ethics of care, using the Ethic of Care Interview (ECI) shows that more women face care-related interpersonal life dilemmas, whereas more men face impersonal ones. Stability of care levels is moderate through mid- to late adulthood. Correlates of care include justice levels, role taking, and cognitive complexity. Authoritarianism is negatively correlated to care ethics. Subjects with high scores on ECI feel more positively about their health and experience of aging.

Self-appraisal, life satisfaction, and retrospective life choices across one and three decades

Article Abstract:

The relationship of a self-appraisal of having lived up to one's intellectual abilities at midlife, with life satisfaction and retrospective life choices, has been investigated. In one study participants who had lived up to their intellectual abilities had higher satisfaction with occupational success, and family life. The second study showed that participants who lived up to their abilities were higher in overall life satisfaction.

Testing models of the structure and development of future time perspective: Maintaining a focus on opportunities in middle age

Article Abstract:

The construct of future time perspective (FTP), with focus on opportunities and focus on limitations as distinct dimensions, are examined across adulthood. Results reveal that focus on opportunities is high in young adults, and is maintained in early middle age, but focus on limitations increases from early to late middle age.
