The influence of physician race, age, and gender on physician attitudes toward advance care directives and preferences for end-of-life decision-making

Article Abstract:

African American physicians mirror the feelings of African American patients by preferring more life-prolonging efforts in case of trauma or critical illness. Survey results of 280 Caucasian and 157 African American physicians suggest that Caucasians favor physician-assisted suicide, whereas African Americans insist on aggressive therapies at the end of their lives. More respect for cultural and racial differences in treatment expectations is needed.

Misleading food labeling may soon be a thing of the past. New legislation will take effect giving the Food and Drug Administration full power to enforce labeling rules as contained in a proposed 3,000-page document.
