The predictive value of combined hypoalbuminemia and hypocholesterolemia in high functioning community-dwelling older persons: MacArthur Studies of Successful Aging

Article Abstract:

The risk of mortality or functional decline in old age may be related to low cholesterol and albumin concentrations. Researchers examined mortality or declining health conditions in four groups of elderly people. Compared to a mortality rate of 4% in the group with normal albumin/normal cholesterol levels, 17% of those who had low albumin/low cholesterol were dead in three years. Functional decline was also more pronounced in the latter group.

Relationship between subjective social status and measures of health in older Taiwanese persons

Article Abstract:

The link between subjective and objective measures (education, income, and occupation) of social status and self rated health functions measures among elderly Taiwanese patients is investigated. A clear link between subjective social status and health ratings is observed. A possible role of education in modifying the relationship was also noted.
