Unique and interactive effects of depression, age, socioeconomic advantage, and gender on cognitive performance of normal healthy older people

Article Abstract:

A study of the impact of depression, age, socioeconomic advantage, and gender on the cognitive abilities of 4243 British subjects aged between 50 to 93 using the Beck Depression Scale and other tests reveals that Beck scores remained invariant with age indicating that depression is related to socioeconomic status and medical risk factors rather than age. The Beck scores were substantially lower for men than for women and for advantaged than disadvantaged socioeconomic groups.

Cognitive performance inconsistency: Intraindividual change and variability

Article Abstract:

Inconsistency in memory speed performance in older adults is examined using a series of multitrial letter recognition tasks. Intraindividual change is conceptualized as long-term lasting change, whereas intraindividual variability is conceptualized as short-term or transient fluctuation.
