Who walks? Factors associated with walking behavior in disabled older women with and without self-reported walking difficulty

Article Abstract:

Factors associated with walking behavior have been studied in disabled older women with and without walking difficulty as self-reported. The study sought to find out how severity of walking difficulty and sociodemographic, health-related and psychosocial factors enter in. The factors, even in functionally limited women, associated independently. Programs intended to improve walking ability should address these factors in addition to walking difficulties.

The specific clinical factors that could best predict resource use by disabled older women are identified. The important predictors of medicare expenditures by disabled older women are reviewed.
