1997-98 sexuality education controversies in the United States

Article Abstract:

The SIECUS Community Advocacy Project reports 135 new attacks on sexuality education in 33 states during the 1997-98 school year. This is similar to the number of incidents recorded during the previous school year. Opponents of sex education continued their efforts by resorting to such tactics as implementation of abstinence-only programs and 'opt-in' rather than 'opt-out' policies. They have also pressed for the elimination of information on contraception. It has been observed that the government has given funds only for abstinence-only-until-marriage programs.
