A politics of the emergent: Cultural studies in South Africa

Article Abstract:

The emergence of cultural studies in South Africa was closely related to the appearance of new forms of knowledge globally and the call for learning skills to be tailored to the demands of the job market during the late 1980s to the late 1990s. After 2000, there is a shift in African cultural studies from the politics of resistance towards a new focus on the emergent with an emphasis on transnational frameworks as well as a reformulated analysis of race in the aftermath of resistance politics.

Cultural studies and politics in India today

Article Abstract:

Cultural Studies need to be reinvented for India as it is still an infant discipline in India and with Bollywood films being the mainstay of cultural studies, it is not very clear which sector of life it should take up for study. The presence of god-men, actors, theatricality, images, fasting vows, and family drama in the arena of electoral mobilizations cannot be penetrated by disciplinary political theory, necessitating the establishment of a Political Cultural Studies.
