Then comes marriage? Religion, race, and marriage in urban America

Article Abstract:

A study to examine the role that religious participation and the norms and behavior it promotes, play in encouraging marriage among new parents in urban America is conducted. Results conclude that religious institutions may promote prosocial behaviors that make couples more confident to marry, and also suggest that the effects of religion are somewhat stronger for men.

The design of a multilevel survey of children, families, and communities: The Los Angeles Family and Neighborhood survey

Article Abstract:

The development and implementation of the multilevel sample design for the Los Angeles Family and Neighborhood Survey, a study of children, adults, families, and neighborhoods in Los Angeles County is described. The results provide important guideposts for the future studies of neighborhoods and their effects on adults and children.

Parental gender, single-parent families, and delinquency: Exploring the moderating influence of race/ethnicity

Article Abstract:

The relationship between family structure and delinquency is examined by considering whether race/ ethnicity moderate the relationship between parental gender and delinquency among single-parent families. It is concluded that children living with single fathers are at an increased risk of being involved in delinquent behavior.
