The entry mode choice of MNEs: an evolutionary approach

Article Abstract:

Joint venture serves an attractive entry mode for firms with technological-, skill- and competency-based advantages. A sample of foreign direct investment undertaken by Italian companies covering the 1986-1993 period revealed that choosing joint venture as an entry mode is highly beneficial when tacit skills, technological opportunities in the industrial environment and competencies serve as vital source of competitive advantage for the company. Joint venture also play a significant role in the internationalization strategy of small companies.
