Analysis of theoretical, methodological and empirical research in the Journal of Regional Science

Article Abstract:

The validity and general composition of the research articles included in the Journal of Regional Science is analyzed. The percentage of purely theoretical papers from 1967 to 1980 is found to have grown at a 3.7% yearly rate and reflects favorable trends for theoretical research. The rate slowed for the period from 1981 to 1990, probably as a result of diminishing theoretical research opportunities. Fe articles were found to be uncited, indicating the sustained impact of the articles on research.

A structural decomposition of regional economic instability: a conceptual framework

Article Abstract:

An input-output model has been used to identify the sources of economic instability in rural regions. The different elements of economic structure were determined and examined in relation to supply and demand relationships. A decomposition of variance technique was used to conceptualize the supply and demand sources of instability. An analysis on the impacts of economic instability on rural regions and the stabilization policies needed to solve these instabilities are presented.
