Assessing Techno-Economic Alternatives for Rural Development in Northwest Mexico

Article Abstract:

Ejidos, agrarian communities as defined by the Mexican government's agrarian reform codes are studies. The purpose of the study is an assessment of current government programs and recommendations for future development of the economically and socially blighted area of Northwest Mexico, Fried, Armijo and Trejo discuss the social problems connected with making changes in marginal environments. Using computer mapping, land use, soil types, geographical slope and vegetation are displayed. After this is done, management decisions can be made in each area. Economic models are then set up and analyzed as to organizational manageability and alternatives are selected by planners and administrators. Specific examples and recommendations are included.

Knowledge, economic structure, and growth

Article Abstract:

A two-sector growth model that examines the dynamic interactional relationships between capital and knowledge is discussed. The model uses industry and service as sectors and presents the university as one of the knowledge creators. The model is analyzed based on a given population and a fixed preference structure of the population. The existence of equilibria is guaranteed and the stability of conditions is provided. The effects of changes in government's research policy upon development are examined.
