The epidemiology of functional apartheid and human rights abuses

Article Abstract:

Functional apartheid and the structural violence that comes with it, adversely affect the health of the people being oppressed. For instance, in Guatamela, the Nutritional Institute for Central America and Panama reported that in the 1980s, 80% of Mayan and Ladino Guatamelan children were malnourished. This shows how functional apartheid causes poor health among people whose rights are being abused.
