Comment on "Defining Indicators Which Make Sense to Local People: Intra-Cultural Variation in Perceptions of Natural Resources" (Virginia Nazarea et al., Human Organization 57:159-170)

Article Abstract:

The impact of policy reforms on tribal communities may insufficiently be evaluated through the use of the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). Contrary to the concepts embodied in Nazarea's work, TAT-derived analytical results are incapable of explaining endogenous indicators. The adoption of a faulty research design further limits Nazarea from generating valid inferences. It must be stressed that tribal participation in policy reforms may only be maximized by fostering a consensus on various decision-making tasks.
