Commentary: Third World can't solve environmental woes alone

Article Abstract:

The environmental problems of the Third World cannot be resolved without assistance from developed countries. Industrialized countries whose population represent one-fifth of the world's population use 70% of the world's energy and 60% of earth's energy resources. Trade relations have become more restrictive since the 1980s with third world products increasingly excluded from industrialized countries. Though some countries have tried innovative debt-for-nature trades, developed countries have maintained an unjustified and inflexible position on debt service.

The effects of sensory deprivation

Article Abstract:

Mutations in almost all of the genes identified in the nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans that influence the structure and formation of broad sets of sensory neurons bring increased lifespan. This effect is much weaker than that prompted by mutations in the dauer-formation gene daf-2. It does not appear that these sensory mutations affect feeding rate, fertility or timing of development. It therefore seems that their impact on lifespan is quite direct.
