Decision making under great uncertainty

Article Abstract:

A systematic but non-mathematical treatment can help in practical decision analysis. All traditional and mathematically oriented decision making is done under uncertainties of demarcation, consequences, reliance and values, but mathematically oriented decision theory seldom considers substantial parts of real uncertainties. While uncertainty about demarcation can be dealt with by widening the decision horizon and postponing the unfinished list. Peer review and representative hedges method can solve disagreement among experts. Decision strategies of all the four categories are discussed.

Karl Popper in exile: the Viennese progressive imagination and the making of 'The Open Society.'

Article Abstract:

Austrian philosopher Karl Popper was an exile from Vienna, Austria who aimed to be a member of cosmopolitan scientific and political circles. Popper experienced a difficult 9-year exile in New Zealand from March 1937 due to his anti-National Socialist and anti-fascist views. His most popular book, 'The Open Societies and Its Enemies,' took three years to publish for lack of willing publishers. He was difficult to get along with and was always on negative terms with colleagues during his professorial assignments. He failed in his mission to make the whole world his home.

The socioeconomic context: an alternative approach to Popper's situational analysis

Article Abstract:

Classical economics has been conventionally believed to be rooted in the Popperian theories on situational analysis. However, this view has not been verified. In fact, standard economics does not possess the characteristics of a social situation. Situational analysis would be more appropriate for socioeconomic contexts which are composed of dominant worldviews, institutions and technologies, relative prices and varied political instruments.
