Economists and food price policy distortions: the case of India

Article Abstract:

Influencing crop output prices, particularly of rice and wheat through price support programs, public distribution and procurement policies, has been the age-old practice of the government of India. Studies delving on the impact of these interventions, however, is inadequate. It was only a decade ago that these were fully documented. An information base culled from the studies will be instrumental in helping the government formulate better agricultural policies. A better understanding of the role economists play in this processual aspect will also be expected.

120 years old: why and at what price?

Article Abstract:

The media has painted Jeanne Calment, the oldest woman alive at the age of 120 years old, as the ideal woman. However, they have left out the fact that Calment is old and also suffering from a number of complications including senile dementia. Furthermore, Calment is alone and entirely dependent on the social care provided by the French government. With no family and friends, Calment is just one of the man elderly people who live in institutions.
