Ethnic absolutism and the authoritarian spirit

Article Abstract:

The relationship between the ideology of contemporary authoritarian Hindu and South Asian movements and the history of Western racial and ethnic constructions during the Enlightenment is examined. Topics addressed include the metaphysics of ethnic belonging, the history of the concept of Arya, and the links between extreme right-wing and metaphysical, New Age ideology.

Inside the zone: the social art of the hustler in the black American ghetto

Article Abstract:

A hustler from a Chicago, IL, housing project demonstrates the wide variety of traits needed to survive in a high-risk area. Since hustling covers a large range of occupations, ranging from the inoffensive to the felonious, a hustler may adopt different personas for each. These create changes in character, physical gestures, elocution, and perspective.
