Evaluation of an occupational stress intervention in a public agency

Article Abstract:

The impact of an intervention aimed at reducing organizational and situational stressors in a public agency was evaluated. The intervention was based on action research, organizational development and Karasek's job-strain model. The results showed that intervention was ineffective in reducing organizational and situational stressors within the agency. This was due to a focus on departments rather than on the entire agency, the adverse effects of an agency restructuring and lack of commitment from employees and management to the program of organizational change and stress reduction.
