Family leaves, the FMLA and gender neutrality: The intersection of race and gender

Article Abstract:

The effects of gender as well as the intersection of race and gender on family leave taking post-FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) are investigated by using nationally representative data on the employed. The analysis has shown that although there are important elements of gender neutrality that the FMLA introduces, this legislation, like the US labor law, contains inadequate means to counter existing inequalities connected not simply to gender but to a gender that intersects with race.
