Induced innovation and path dependence: a reassessment with respect to agricultural development and the environment

Article Abstract:

A theoretical review suggests the co-existence of the two models of technical change, induced innovation and path dependence. The path of technological innovations may be stable but does not remain for a long time in a single direction. During a lag in technological development, economic and social issues necessitate new technologies to address existing problems. The industrial and agricultural sectors' shift of interest from increased production to environment-friendly agricultural innovations, for example, stems from increasing environmental advocacy.
