International consulting income: an investigation of the tax implications of a U.S. indivdual working in Canada

Article Abstract:

A U.S. national's performance of a service in a foreign jurisdiction provides the situation in which to explore the different tax implications for both employees and independent contractors. A student is tasked to identify applicable U.S. law and to research on the U.S. - Canada tax treaty to determine the tax consequences.

Tax implications of participating in reality television

An instructional case based on the ABC television show, "Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition," is used as a tax research project. It focuses on how renovations made by the show would be treated by the Internal Revenue Service and their implications for the homeowners.
