Omarska Camp, Bosnia: broken promises of "never again"

Article Abstract:

The Omarska Camp litigation before the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia involved lower-level workers in the detention camp and their liability for crimes, especially rape, committed against the women held there. The accused did not physically commit the crimes, but were sentenced to prison for knowlege about the crimes and for facilitating them. This case has helped establish standards for international criminal liability.

Kept out: responding to public housing no-trespass policies

Article Abstract:

No-trespassing policies have been implemented in several public housing projects in order to reduce drug use and crime. However, when these policies involve a complete bar of non-residents, they are often used to circumvent restrictions on police power and can operate disproportionately on minorities. Clear policies involving only the exclusion of criminal offenders are greatly preferable.
