Scientists at major and minor universities: mobility along the prestige continuum

Article Abstract:

The occupational mobility of scientists is investigated from three perspectives. The first looks at the connection between a scientist's work in an emerging field and his likelihood of graduation from a prestigious institution. The second evaluates the career paths of graduates from prestigious and less prestigious universities. The third investigates whether graduates of prestigious universities are more likely to be appointed to academic posts by prestigious universities.
