Seductions of the impossible: love, the erotic and sacrifice in surrealist discourse

Article Abstract:

The idea of sacrifice in the work of Georges Bataille is related to surrealist discourse on love and sexuality. Surrealists viewed love as transgressive against social values, through which Bataille by extension finds a connection between eroticism and sacrifice. Bataille's notion is important in showing an affirmative aspect of sacrifice that is not often recognized.
