Technological competencies and product's evolutionary dynamics a case study from the aero-engine industry

Article Abstract:

The successful management of product systems requires companies to apply techniques such as vertical integration, outsourcing, and research and development strategies in order to master their products' evolutionary dynamics over time. Evidence can be seen in the examination of Rolls-Royce's management of the manufacturing of jet engines. The company exhibits vertical integration for components that influence engine performance, plus it has successfully stimulated technological competencies in technical and innovative fields, and has developed a R&D strategy that allows the purchaser to comprehend technologies.

The industrial dynamics of open innovation - evidence from the transformation of consumer electronics

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the Open Innovation concept, from an industrial dynamics perspective, is presented. A study examining the management of Open Innovation in different electronic companies, in regard to an emerging technology, express their differential position within the innovation system, and the nature and stage of maturity of the technological regime, as well as the value proposition of the companies, is presented.
