Asset profiles for technological innovation

Article Abstract:

A framework for analyzing assets for technological innovation has been proposed. It is based on the company's resource and capability conception. The framework considers a conceptual distinction between scientific research assets, process innovative assets, product innovative application assets and aesthetic design assets. The approach opposes the one-dimensional R&D conception which views the activity as one functional asset along with others such as marketing or manufacturing.

Transaction costs and technological development: the case of the Danish fruit and vegetable industry

Article Abstract:

Current theories on technological development posit that innovation is triggered largely by the need to curtail production costs. However, production costs by themselves are not enough to explain why innovation takes place. By using a transaction cost minimizing path, it could be shown that transaction costs also act as a trigger to innovation. The Danish fruit and vegetable industry provides an example of how transaction costs could motivate innovation.

On the sources and significance of interindustry differences in technological opportunities

Article Abstract:

The sources of technological development for industries include science, non-industrial sectors and existing technologies. A survey of companies showed biology and mathematics as two fields considered significant. Firms valued technology from their suppliers and customers. Changes in existing manufacturing process have also led to better products. The electronic components industry was found to be the leader in technological development.
