The problem of the attractor: A singular generality between sciences and social theory

Article Abstract:

The social sciences and humanities, complexity sciences are treated as a source of new metaphors or tropes to be used in theory-building, where the Lorenz attractor figures the history of complexity science as a popular image of 'deterministic chaos' and the 'butterfly effect', as an indication of how far complexity science has progressed. Lorenz attractor part of a re-engineered concept of multiplicity helps to conceptualize feeling, and it raises the general problem of practice in theory-building.

Science

Article Abstract:

A study explores how social scientists and cultural theorists could take responsibility in engaging with science, and how they could develop an experimental sensibility to the links between the production of knowledge and the production of existence or forms of life. It explores several approaches to sketch a vector of responsibility across a diverse range of engagements, suggesting that contemporary movements between science and other knowledge constitute ethical and political imperatives.
