Singing the Russian blues: An argument for culturally basic color terms

Article Abstract:

A body of research on the Russian blues is reviewed and arguments are presented from lexical-semantic analysis and linguistic and psycholinguistic studies. The issue of the Russian blue calls into question the proper definition of a basic color term, by focusing on a distinction between denotative and designative meaning.
