Women wonder: should it be Contract On America?

Article Abstract:

Women's rights advocates have been put on the defensive by the Republican takeover of Congress, forced to use their energy to protect existing gains rather than fighting for new ones. Republicans are attempting to limit welfare support for women and are likely to go after reproductive rights. Nutritional programs and other welfare benefits are likely to be targeted as part of budget deficit reduction, and the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues has been abolished.

Should children be allowed to sue their parents?

Article Abstract:

Suits allowing children to sue their parents for personal injuries where their parents have liability insurance coverage are challenging the traditional doctrine of parental immunity from liability. So far, 21 states have modified the doctrine, and evidence is cumulating that disposition of claims through insurance liability serves the doctrine's goal of family harmony while accommodating childrens' right to recover against responsible parties.

A case study of child abuse and a parent's refusal to withdraw life-sustaining treatment

Article Abstract:

The case of Baby L.V. handed down by the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 1998 provides a case study involving child abuse and the right of a parent to refuse to withdraw life-sustaining treatment for the child. In this case, the same parent whose severe shaking left the two month old child in a deep coma tried to veto the withdrawal of treatment out of fear of prosecution for homicide if the child died.
