Behavioral contagion and official delinquency: epidemic course in adolescence

Article Abstract:

The Epidemic Modeling of the Onset of Social Activities paradigm was used to study the cumulative onset curve for frankly delinquent behaviors, as opposed to 'mildly deviant' behaviors such as smoking, drinking and sexual activity. A number of conceptual mismatches between the theory underlying the model and the model itself were identified. These mismatches include the commitment of delinquent acts by some boys who are not arrested and some boys who were arrested in one instance for delinquent acts but who no longer commit them.

Scholars such as Burgess and Robert Park have made a difference via their collaborative contributions to teaching. The proposed annual SSSP Teaching Community Award aims to honor partnerships, departments or other teaching collectives that have maintained the Chicago School's teaching traditions and the SSSP's progressive mission.
