Beliefs and accounts of illness: views from two Cantonese-speaking communities in England

Article Abstract:

An examination is presented on health attitudes and behavior among members of Canton-Chinese neighborhoods in England, focusing on mind and body correlations and spiritual agency within Asian culture. Subjects used by Chinese patients to communicate their health status include traditional medicine, demons, spirits, weather and food.

Illness and other assaults on self: the relative impact of HIV/AIDS on women's lives

Article Abstract:

Many women infected with HIV or AIDS regarded family violence, drug use, or mother-child separation as more significant elements in their lives. Assessment of HIV compared to other disruptive events was affected by drug use and abuse histories, social support, and race.
