Challenges to treating the elderly Latino substance abuser: a not so hidden research agenda

Article Abstract:

Addressing the problem of substance abuse among elderly Latinos in a manner that is culturally competent has become a growing challenge in the 21st century. To begin with, information on the use and misuse of alcohol and other substances among Latino elderly is severely lacking. The growing number of this population, which will expectedly increase the extent of substance abuse and associated problems, as well as the generally tolerant attitude on substance abusers by acculturated Latinos, will also make the task of addressing the substance abuse problem a more complicated one.

The cross-cultural exchange of development and evaluation of programs for drug education

Article Abstract:

The techniques of marketing employed in the field of business should be applied to all community level educational endeavors aimed at fighting drug abuse. Though all cultures should develop their own strategy to combat the problem, spread of information on drug education would make it easier for them to decide feasible methods. Results from research on the effect of various modes of information-presentation on the drug use of children is presented.

The dismantling of anti-discrimination in British social work: a view from social work education

Article Abstract:

The issue of racism in the UK in the 1990s has been overemphasized and sensationalized. This has affected social work education and practice. Strong arguments prevail in the issue of racism to the neglect of other significant issues such as poverty and global scale injustice. Today, social work in Britain recognizes the need for a new radicalized political agenda that will discuss issues beyond racism.
