Color as an environmental processing cue: external affective cues can directly affect processing strategy without affecting mood

Article Abstract:

Problem-solving tasks were used to determine whether color can function as an environmental processing cue and influence mood. The tasks were printed on red, white and blue paper. Results show that color directly influences the processing strategies of those with low motivation. Results reveal that the blue and white paper promoted better performance than the red paper during low motivation conditions. The study, however, failed to validate previous research claiming that color affects mood.
