Decisional balance and stage of change for adolescent drinking

Article Abstract:

The transtheoretical model of change serves as a tool to explain both the acquisition and cessation of alcohol use among adolescents. The Decisional Balance and Stage of Change constructs have been used to further explain adolescents' immoderate use of alcohol. A Decisional Balance Inventory was developed using the Pros and Cons of alcohol use. This approach could provide the basis for a new intervention strategy.

Perceived family support, negative mood regulation expectancies, coping, and adolescent alcohol use: Evidence of mediation and moderation effects

Article Abstract:

Hypotheses derived from the stressor vulnerability model of alcohol were evaluated in a study, adding two potential coping resources that could be important for adolescents who perceived family support and expectancies for negative mood regulation (NMR). Results support the model and highlight the importance of family support and NMR expectancies as coping resources related to drinking processes.

Do school surroundings matter? Alcohol outlet density, perception of adolescent drinking in public, and adolescent alcohol use

Article Abstract:

The study investigates the relationship between alcohol outlet density, perception of adolescent drinking in public, and drunkenness at an individual level. The results show that if there were few shops near the school, the schoolmasters' perception of adolescent drinking in public was positively associated with the frequency of alcohol consumption and excessive drinking use.
