Dignity over the life course

Article Abstract:

The elderly are often considered as a problem to society when they are, in fact, important spiritual and psychological resources. The educational system should acknowledge that the elderly can have learned important values in life which they could transmit to the younger generation. Bringing children, individually or as a group, to visit the elderly in nursing homes would provide opportunities for inter-generational connection. The elderly could impart important values and historical insights to the children while enjoying the company their young visitors.

Old and poor: comparison of female and male meal program participants

Article Abstract:

A study on the quality of life of the elderly on the bottom of the socioeconomic strata was conducted. A total of 1,083 participants answered a questionnaire from the three counties of Florida, of which the majority were females. These impoverished senior citizens were forced to subsist on nutrition offered by a day-time meal program. They suffer from lack of basic daily needs, loneliness, and misery. The indigent elderly evidently require social services that had been sadly overlooked.
