Dual identities in intergroup contact: Group status and size moderate the generalization of positive attitude change

Article Abstract:

Two experiments involving groups of different size and/or status working together were conducted to explore the effects of various categorization strategies on intergroup bias within and beyond a contact situation. Results indicated that all of the categorization strategies were effective at limiting intergroup bias in the contact situation itself, but outside the contact situation, an interaction among the independent variables was observed.

Status generalization in context: The moderating role of groups

Two experiments that measured the relative influence of an older and younger target within different groups i.e. an undergraduate student group and a broader university group is discussed. The results showed that in the university group, the younger target was less influential in both the experiments and in the undergraduate student group the younger target was more influential.

Victim's innocence, social categorization, and the threat to the belief in a just world

Article Abstract:

The hypothesis of the belief in a just world (BJW) is examined through a study of people's reactions to the suffering of victims. It was observed that the participant's BJW is most threatened when the victim is innocent and also that an ingroup victim's threat to the participant's BJW is greater than if the victim belonged to an outgroup.
