Effects of response type on pigeons' sensitivity to variation in reinforcer amount and reinforcer delay

Article Abstract:

The values of sensitivity of relative responding to variations in reinforcer amount, reinforcer delay and in self control are similar for pigeons obtaining access to grain by either pecking keys or pressing treadles. Pigeons that press treadles press them at the same rate during the delay and during the choice periods. Pigeons show self control when key pecking is unlimited to that particular type of response.

Local preference in concurrent schedules: The effects of reinforcer sequences

Article Abstract:

The effects that sequences of same-key reinforcers obtained from the same response key have on local preference in concurrent variable-interval schedules with pigeons as subjects are investigated. Although there was a general tendency to stay at the just-reinforced alternative, this tendency was considerably decreased in conditions where same-key reinforcer sequences were short.

Effects of amphetamine-CNS depressant combinations and of other CNS stimulants in four-choice drug discriminations

Article Abstract:

The pattern of responding on each key following increasing doses of pentobarbital and amphetamine for each pigeon in the amphetamine-pentobarbital group is shown. The four-choice procedure can reveal subtle effects in the discrimination of individual drugs and drug combinations that are not apparent with procedures offering fewer response alternatives.
