Ethnography and experiment in social psychological theory building: tactics for integrating qualitative field data with quantitative lab data

Article Abstract:

This article examines the integration of qualitative and quantitative experimental data in theory building in social psychology. An analysis of several classic psychological studies provides insight into the strengths and weaknesses of including information gained from real-world observation with controlled laboratory research to help establish emerging theories.

Communicating about a social interaction: effects on memory for protagonists' statements and nonverbal behaviors

Article Abstract:

People's memory for the statements and behaviors that occurred in the course of a social interaction were considered. Findings of experiments indicate that communicating impressions of the protagonists decreased recognition of the statements that they made but had little effect on the recognition of nonverbal behaviors.

Bicultural mind, self-construal, and self- and mother-reference effects: consequences of cultural priming on recognition memory

Article Abstract:

The studies on the effects of bicultural priming on self knowledge and recognition memory of Beijing University students reveal that the interplay of the interdependent and independent self of these students is responsible for the sociocultural response.
