Event frequency and comparative optimism: Another look at the indirect elicitation method of self-others risks

Article Abstract:

It is argued that common rather than rare negative future life events elicit greater indirect self-others comparative optimism. In one study it is shown that greater the event's perceived frequency, the greater is the numerical value assigned to express a given degree of risk discrepancy, while in a second study weak negative rather than positive relations between perceived event frequency and the sense of risk discrepancy was found.

Diagnosing the difficulty of conflict resolution between individuals from the same and different social groups

Article Abstract:

The hypothesis that intergroup conflicts are judged more difficult to resolve than intragroup conflicts is tested. It is indicated that the intergroup conflict was judged more difficult to resolve when the dispute had a lower likelihood of resolution while the intragroup conflict was judged more difficult to resolve when the dispute had a higher likelihood of resolution.
