Expressing their feelings: art by Vietnamese boat people

Article Abstract:

Still Lives, an exhibit organized by refugee support groups, is a collection of artwork by Vietnamese refugees in detention centers in Hong Kong. The artwork shows the overcrowded living conditions within the centers, their flight from Vietnam by sea, and dreams and memories of their home country. As the detainees wait for the official processing that will determine whether they will be sent back to Vietnam or be allowed to settle elsewhere, painting and other artistic outlets help to fill the hours of waiting while giving them a bridge to the outside world.

The law and elderly people

Article Abstract:

Ruth Lavery and Laura Lundy's article helped to explain the UK Social Security Appointee System and the Law Commission's proposals to reform it. Its main thrust was to assess the system, which enables elderly beneficiaries to claim their pensions, from the perspectives of the claimant, the appointee and the public. Likewise, Stephen Cragg's discussion of the Public Law Project's work to help the disadvantage obtain access to public law remedies was also helpful.
