Factors associated with weight change among clients of a residential weight control program indicating binge and nonbinge traits

Article Abstract:

A study has been conducted to assess the factors associated with long term weight maintenance and weight program. In the US alone, obesity-related health care programs are estimated to cost $140 billion dollars annually. Several respondents were assessed to determine the long-term effects of a residential weight control program on weight change. Results indicate that binge eating behavior of an individual, exercise behavior and dieting behavior are the factors that determine the success of the weight control program.

Metabolic determinants of binge eating

Article Abstract:

It is generally believed that binge-eating is a result of energy restriction and dieting. However, studies have shown that recurrent eating binges may be an expression of familial obesity and may be present before the onset of dieting. Binge eating may be caused by physiological factors as evidenced by data which offer psychobiological validation of the DSM-IV binge eating disorder. Binge-eating behavior, therefore, may be a possible cause of dietary restraint.
